The Spyder is available with both a traditional 5-speed or
semi-automatic (clutchless) transmission, equipped with a
paddle shifter near the left grip. Personally, I think the 5-speed
is the way to go. Our loaner was also fitted with Can-Am's
optional touring windshield and solo seat cowl, as well as a
Hindle exhaust to give it a little extra growl. While the
aftermarket is still working on various goodies for the Spyder,
you can pick up a few really nice pieces now, such as Corbin's
hard bags and optional passenger backrest with trunk, if the 44
liter front cargo area isn't enough for you.
A fuel capacity of 6.6 gallons should provide a good range,
although we ripped through a couple of gallons of petrol in a
very short amount of time. The Spyder is currently available in
a silver/black combination, called "Full Moon", "Millennium
Yellow", and "Roadster Red", although you'll have to wait a little
while for delivery of any color, since BRP expects to be caught
up to production demands sometime this Fall.
It comes with a 2 year, unlimited mile warranty, so you shouldn't
have to worry about "first run" bugs in the system. Contact Matt
Boyle at ProShop Motorsports and Marine (702-564-8895) on
Lake Mead Dr. to schedule your test ride, and prepare to come
back begging for more time. I know we were.
Also, make your plans to attend the Can-Am Factory Demo
Day, scheduled for November 9th. There will be several models
to test out, so you can determine exactly which Spyder you
need to make room for in the garage.
